Colwell's Driving School

We are a family-owned driving school that has proudly served the local community since 1964, building more than 50 years of trusted driver education experience. Our team holds full licensing from the State of New York and formal approval from the New York Department of Motor Vehicles, ensuring all our services meet strict state regulatory standards. We specialize in automatic car driving instruction for learners across the Bronx, New York, with all lessons conducted by New York State-certified instructors. Every private on-the-road driving lesson we provide lasts a full 45 minutes, with students paired with the same dedicated instructor and training vehicle for consistency. Our fleet of training vehicles is fully insured and equipped with dual controls for maximum safety during every lesson. We employ patient, reliable, college-trained instructors who are fluent in both English and Spanish to support a diverse range of learners. We never require students to sign long-term contracts or purchase mandatory course bundles to access our driving lesson services.

We offer flexible payment options, including individual pay-as-you-go lessons and discounted multi-lesson packages to fit different budgets. For students preparing for their road test, we provide use of our training vehicle for the exam and free DMV appointment scheduling when using our vehicle for the test. We host the state-mandatory 5-hour pre-licensing course at our East Gun Hill Road location, with no written exam and no prior appointment required to attend. We also offer the New York State-approved 6-hour defensive driving course, also called the Insurance Reduction or Point Reduction course, to help licensed drivers lower their insurance costs and reduce points on their record. Our commitment to accessible, high-quality driver education has made us a recognized leader in the Bronx driving instruction industry for over half a century.
