Our Story

At Safe Driver Drivers Education, we have been dedicated to teaching the next generation of drivers the skills they need to stay safe on the road since 2009. Our story began when our founder, Mr. Chris Rolwes, a social studies teacher at Jefferson High School, recognized the importance of driver education. With over 29 years of experience in the classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction, Mr. Rolwes founded our company with the mission to provide high-quality driver education to the Cedar Rapids community.

Our Team

We're proud to have a team of experienced instructors who are passionate about teaching drive safely and responsibly. Meet some of our instructors:

• Mr. Chris Rolwes: With over 20 years of experience in driver education, Mr. Rolwes has taught thousands of students the skills they need to stay safe on the road. He has also served on the Safety Educators of Iowa Board of Directors and has worked closely with the Iowa Department of Transportation to implement recommended changes to the driver education curriculum.
• Mr. Brad Tower: A physical education teacher and coach at the Iowa City Community School District, Mr. Tower has been teaching driver education for over 10 years. He has a special passion for teaching this important life skill to students.
• Mr. Andrew Tower: A physical education teacher and coach at McKinley Middle School, Mr. Tower has recently started teaching driver education. He is excited to share his knowledge with students and help them develop safe driving habits.
• Mr. Max Matthias: A substitute teacher at Jefferson High School, Mr. Matthias has a background in physical education and has recently started teaching driver education. He is passionate about teaching students the skills they need to drive safely.
• Mr. Marvin Trachta: A retired teacher from the Cedar Rapids Community School District, Mr. Trachta has taught driver education for many years and has a wealth of knowledge to share with students.

Our Programs

We offer two main programs: Teen Driver Education and Refresher Lessons. Our Teen Driver Education program is designed for students who are 14 years old or older and want to learn the skills they need to drive safely. Our program includes 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction with 12 hours of observation, as well as online lessons and quizzes. Upon completion of the program, students will receive a Certificate of Completion, making them eligible to receive their Minor School Permit or Graduated Driver's License.

Our Refresher Lessons program is designed for students who have completed our Teen Driver Education program and need a refresher lesson before driving independently. This program includes a 75-minute driving lesson and is designed to help students review their skills and build confidence behind the wheel.

Our Classes

Our classes are designed to be both engaging and informative, with a mix of in-person and online instruction. Our online portion of the course is asynchronous, allowing students to complete lessons and assignments at their own pace. We also offer in-person classroom instruction, with two in-person meetings and online lessons.
